Residents of Kisweera in Naama ward, Mityana district are crying foul after borrowing money from PDM and POWESA cooperatives and investing it in livestock.
The residents are living in terror as they find their animals poisoned every day. According to them, some unknown people are spreading poisonous rice in their chicken herds, animals die mysteriously and they believe that the killing could spread from animals to humans.
Residents say they have lost a lot of money with over 80 animals counted dead. Among the animals that are claimed to have been poisoned, are pigs, cattle, and chickens.
Residents told Mubende Post that the first day they experienced the tragedy they fled to their village chairman Ssalongo Kavuma Badru to look for a possible solution but he only promised to take their case to the security forces.
The residents further said that they were advised to go to the police to file their cases. Police responded, took experts to the village, and examined the animals but they are yet to get the solution to the matter.
During an Interview with Mubende Post, the area chairman Ssalongo Kavuma revealed that he is aware of the issues of the residents.
“Am aware of the issue my residents are currently facing. They came to me lately I advised them to go to the police which they did but since the police came over here to examine the dead animals, we have never got feedback. Police are delaying the case. Therefore, we are stuck. However, we shall follow up on the matter and make sure we get the residents out of this attack,” Mr Kavuma assured Naama Residents.
Ssuubi Francis, among the affected residents, said that it would be very difficult to pay back the Loans he borrowed from PDM & POWESA after that attack on the animals.
