3 Juveniles Confirmed Dead in Kyankwanzi Drowning

KYANKWANZI: The territorial police in Kyankwanzi have registered a case of drowning that claimed the lives of 3 juveniles.

According to SP Kawala Racheal, the Wamala region Police spokesperson, the incident happened on August 28, 2024, at an unknown time in
Biroboka Cell, Kyankwanzi Town Council in Kyankwanzi District.

SP Kawala revealed to Mubende Post that three juveniles lost their life in the incident. The deceased have been identified as Bambozo Sylvia aged 08 years old, Mugwanya Alex aged 06 years old, Namuli Oliva aged 03 years old. All children of Ssekiziyivu Patrick a resident of Biroboka cell, Kyankwanzi district.

It’s alleged that about three years ago, Ssekiziyivu Patrick temporarily shifted together with his family from his home located in Buswabwera Village, Byerima Sub County in Kyankwanzi District to Biroboka Cell in the same District to do gardening at the farm of Petero Tumushabe.

On August 24, 2024, Nambozo Noor, the mother to the three deceased children left for their home in Byerima village for some domestic chores, leaving the husband with the three children.

On August 28, 2024, the deceased’s father left the children (deceased) and proceeded to Lubiri Trading Centre in Kyankwanzi district to visit a friend leaving them (children) with no caretaker.

Preliminary findings indicate that while still at Lubiri trading center, Ssekiziyivu got information that his children had drowned to death in a dam found at the farm of Petero Tumushabe, located at Biroboka Cell.

The Police task team responded to the scene of crime, examined it, and documented.

SP Kawala has encouraged Parents and guardians to be vigilant and cautious and are further urged not to leave their children unattended by an adult even for a short time.
