KASSANDA: Government health officials in Kassanda district have refused to attend a ceremony where they were going to receive donated equipment for Government hospitals in the district.
The ceremony under the theme “Celebrating Mothers; Role of Men in Supporting Pregnant Mothers” was organized by the National Unity Platform -NUP’s Woman Member of Parliament Kassanda, Hon Kalule Flavia Nabagabe at Nakivubo playground in Bukuya town council.
According to lawmaker Flavia Kalule, she was going to hand over the beds in various categories to the district health center IVs including Kiganda Health Center IV, Kasanda Health Center IV, as well as Bukuya Health Center IV.
Flavia brought in newborn babies’ beds with 2 beds per healthy centre, 2 delivery beds for each, 2 drip stands for each, 2 ward screens to each for 4 rooms (if not added it can cover 8 rooms), and liquid soap.
However, after district health officials failed to show up, the equipment was handed over to mayors of the town councils, including Bukuya town council mayor Ekodit Manu and Kassanda town council, Mitego Frank to deliver them to the mentioned hospitals.
According to Hon Flavia Kalule, the mayors told her that they were in touch with the health officials of Kassanda.
Hon Flavia added that, through the mayors, officials thanked them (NUP) for the good cooperation but revealed that officials refused to attend before approval from their employers.
Flavia criticized the authorities saying the items were intended to help the people of Kassanda and were brought in good faith and not political.
The president of the national unit platform Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who was the chief guest replied to Hon Flavia’s complaints saying it’s not the first time to see such things happen and advised her not to lose hope.
The ceremony was attended by LoP Joel Ssenyoni, MPs including Hon Kaaya Christine Nakimweero of Kiboga district, Hon Patrick Nsaba MP Kasanda North, Hon Kabuye Frank Kibirige, Hon Aloysius Mukasa of Lubaga South, and Hon Zzaake Francis Butebi of Mityana municipality among others.
