Two Killed in Kyankwanzi Seeking Spiritual Deliverance

KYANKWANZI: The territorial police in Kyankwanzi are holding a one Ssemanda Ronald in connection with the double murder of his biological mother and brother that occurred in Kiyuni Village, Kiyuni Parish, Gayaza Sub-county, Kyankwanzi District on September 9, 2024, at 2020 hours.

The deceased have been identified as Namaganda Sylvia, 46, and Ssenyonga Robert, 24, both were residents of Bukekete Village, Makulubita Sub County, Luwero District.

Preliminary information indicates that in June 2024, the three (the suspect and the deceased) left their home in Luwero District and headed for prayers at the home of Rev. David Ssejjemba, a parish priest of Nankandura Church of Uganda in Kiyuni Village, Kyankwanzi District.

It is alleged they had purposely taken Ssemanda Ronald for miraculous prayers and deliverance since he had suffered from mental illness for a long time.

On September 9, 2024, at about 2020 hours, Ssemanda Ronald (suspect) allegedly picked up a large cassava stem and hit his brother on the head, then turned to his mother and struck her on the head as well. This caused the instant death of the brother, while the mother died shortly after arrival at a nearby clinic.

Police officers immediately responded to the scene of the crime. The scene has been examined and documented, and the cassava stem used in the attack has been recovered as evidence. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, Police PRO Wamala sub region, the suspect, Ssemanda Ronald, a 30-year-old resident of Bukekete Village, is currently detained at Kyankwanzi Police. He will be subjected to a medical examination to establish his mental status. Investigations are ongoing.
