Mubende DRDC Launches Construction Of 4.4Bn Solar Piped Water System

MUBENDE: The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mr. Birungi Abubaker accompanied by the Secretary for Production and Natural Resources Hon Kagambagye Moses, PAS Mr. Ssali Edison, David Bateganya – Principal Engineer Ministry of Water and Environment political and technical staff from sub-counties held the site handover for the supply, installation, and construction of solar powered piped water system in Mubende district worth 4.4billion Uganda shillings.

The Ministry of Water and Environment through the Rural Water and Supply and Sanitation Department prioritized the development of the solar piped water systems project with funding from the Exim Bank of India targeting districts with sub-counties with safe water coverage of less than 50 percent.

In Mubende district in Bagezza sub-county;

  1. Kijjojolo -Mugaju solar piped water system with a total cost of 831,539,412 will serve 5 villages which include Kijojolo, Mugaju, Kinoni, Kyamukona, and Kalangala.

2. Kalingo -Kyakaddali piped water supply system also in the Bagezza sub-county will cost 795,381,334 and will serve 6 villages that include Nkandwa A, Nkandwa B, Mikisa, Kisombwa, Kiteredde and Nabibungo.

    3. In Kibalinga Sub county. Kibalinga -Bagezza piped water supply system will cost 2,866,534,132 and will serve kibalinga sub county busingye west and busingye East in Bagezza sub county.

    DRDC Mr.Birungi Abubaker while addressing the beneficiaries thanked the President in partnership with Exim bank for securing the funds to be used in the water project. He also extended his thanks to the ministry for fulfilling the mandate to provide water services.

    Birungi appealed to the political leaders to monitor and supervise the construction works. He further requested the contractor to do quality and timely work to serve the community.

    Hon Kagambagye Moses Sec for Production and Natural Resources revealed that the Ministry of Water and Environment selected Mubende as one of the beneficiaries.

    He appealed to the contractor should provide quality work which translates into value for money. He also requested the contractor to consider local content for the semi skilled labour and also procure raw materials from the community if they are available.

    He reminded the contractor and his staff to desist from the habit of engaging in politics but rather concentrate on the their work.

    PAS Mr.Ssali Edison thanked the ministry of Water and Environment for continued support through projects which translates into improved service delivery.

    Ssali told the residents to own the above project, supervise the construction works, and also report to the authorities cases of shoddy work.

    He noted that once the projects are completed there will be a reduction on the long distances moved in search for water and diseases due to unsafe clean water.

    David Bateganya – Principal Engineer Ministry of water and environment requested the residents to cooperate with contractor and give him the necessary support so that the above projects are completed in the stipulated time of 8 months to serve the communities.
