The MP for Mubende Municipality in Parliament, Hon Bashir Lubega Ssempa laughs at those who have been promoting the President’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to run for the presidency in the coming general elections in 2026.
This is after Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s son through his X account on Saturday revealed that he won’t run for the presidency in the 2026 election. He also stated that he would back his father instead.
“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first.
“So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” Kainerugaba said on X.
Speaking at the political talk show on Point FM radio on Saturday morning, Hon Bashir Lubega Ssempa said it was not good to just hang out with princes when you are not a prince
He used Mathew 13:14,18 to send a message to those who have been walking the general as well as saying bad words as a help to those who do not believe in him.
“I have always told you that I rarely talk. I think now you have seen and nothing hurts politicians trying to erase what he said lies, now these fellows have counted,” Hon Bashir said.
Hon Bashir added that he could not support someone who has no basis and whose motives are not clear.
“I waited for the president’s son to call me and ask me to support him as President Museveni has done when there is an issue he wants to pass in parliament even when we were electing speakers they asked us for support, PLU was registered as an NGO,” SSempa said.
Many of Uganda’s most powerful politicians including Hon Kabanda David representing Kasambya constituency, and the secretary general PLU, which is said to be at the forefront of pushing the president’s son to be the president of Uganda starting in 2026 were left in shock though some them still positive and hopeful.
“Hehe, your good friend Daudi is patiently waiting for the right time. He believes in the Father, Son, and the holy spirit,” Secretary General PLU hon Kabanda on his x.
Kainerugaba had said in an earlier post announcing his intention to contest the election that it was time for fresh blood in Ugandan politics.
“No civilian will lead Uganda after President Museveni. The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman,” Kainerugaba said.
Museveni, 80, has ruled Uganda since he toppled President Milton Obote in 1986. if he wins the 2026 general elections will be the seventh term.
