MUBENDE: More than 2101 young patriots drawn from over 8 secondary schools within Mubende district were passed out from Kasenyi playground.
The patriots underwent one week of training on patriotism organized by the Office of the President under the Patriotism Secretariat. The participants were drawn from schools that include, Kasenyi SS, 663, St Charles Lwanga SS, 114, Universal College Mubende, 114, Mubende parents SS, 338, Mubende Army SS, 366, Mubende Light SS, 280, Comprehensive High School, 72, and Butoloogo Seed SS, 96.
Girls’ total surpassed the boys’, 1096 and 1005 respectively.
According to Ngirabakunzi John the regional coordinator of the Patriotism Corps in Mubende, The Head Teacher of Kasenyi Secondary School, and President of the Association of Head Teachers of Secondary Schools in Mubende, the six-day training focused on instilling the core values of patriotism. It carried out routine activities, career guidance financial literacy and personal development, gender-based violence, crime prevention and peacebuilding, climate change, and HIV AIDS.
He challenged the trainees to be disciplined and hardworking to excel in all their endeavors. John also urged them to show love to one another and avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their futures.
Hon. Hope Grania Nakazibwe, the district woman representative in the parliament, expressed her gratitude to the trainers and patriots for their dedication to promoting the core values of Uganda. He urged the patriots to adhere to the values they were taught to achieve a better state for the nation.
Nakazibwe revealed that the patriots were taught the ideology of the NRM government, which includes the four core principles of nationalism, Pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation. She encouraged the patriots to remain focused and to transform their mindsets for the betterment of their daily lives in the country.
The Commissioner from the Office of the President under the Patriotism Secretariat Hon Hellen Seku, while officiating the passing out of the Patriots encouraged the students to keep up with the spirit of patriotism as it is what will guide them to live a meaningful life in their country Uganda.
She further highlighted that the 1995 Constitution, the political history of Uganda right from pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history teaches us to be patriotic to our nation and it’s a must for every Ugandan.
President Museveni launched the patriotism programme in 2009 after realising that it was risky for Ugandans to ignore issues of national consciousness.
The programme is currently being implemented in institutions of learning that embrace youth who are the greater percentage of the country’s population.
