KASSANDA: Several residents in Nalutuntu ward in Kassanda district survived with injuries and others are now without shelter after the roofs of their houses were ripped off by the torrential rainstorm and heavy rains that hit the area.
Six children are believed to have survived the collapsed house, four of whom are still in critical condition at Kyakatebe Hospital.
Residents in Nalutuntu village in Kasanda district who were able to contact us said that many properties including food and houses were damaged in the rain that fell.
A six-year-old Asian was one of the survivors of the collapsed house where they were with five others.
Their father lived with the children and their mother left them but at the time of the incident, their father was away from home.
Their grandfather Abudallah Mutabaazi who was present at the time was hanging water and the child Asia called him and went to fetch the others when the house had already collapsed on them.
He screamed for help but it was difficult to hear him because of the continuous rain but that in the middle of the screams he heard one of his grandchildren screaming on the floor covered with blocks
They were taken to a hospital in Kyakatebe where two of them are in critical condition.
Not only were they injured but Harriet Nakitende was also affected when the house collapsed on them while she was trying to save her children.
Residents say they are now facing hunger “who gave him a chair” and now they do not know what to do.
Three villages in the district were flooded and some of the villagers told us that this is not the first time this kind of rain has fallen in their area.
The resident district commissioner in Kassanda Phoebe Namulindwa said they will try to ensure that the affected people receive assistance
