MUBENDE: The poor condition of the Highway, Kirungi-Kangulumira to Gayaza road has prompted users and angry residents to bitterly attack Mubende Municipality leaders.
This comes as a result of its poor state amidst heavy rains that has caused potholes that hinder smooth transport in the areas.
Road users criticize the leaders including Mubende Municipality Mayor Eng. Innocent Ssekiziyivu, for not thinking about this road as one of the roads to benefit under the World Bank’s Project known as USMID.
This has sparked different reactions from roads who have decided to solicit fuel so that they can do it at their own cost.
However, Mubende Municipality Mayor Engineer Sekiziyivu has responded with a green light to the initiative as he says has no injunction on the matter saying community engagement in road maintenance “Bulungi Bwansi” is crucial.
“One of the reasons why the road has not been worked on is the incumbrances on it including the fact that the residents who built on its sides didn’t think about the road reserves,” Mubende Municipality Mayor Eng. Innocent Ssekiziyivu.
Ssekiziivu says that the Highway, where the road starts is narrower and it should be wider for vehicles entering and leaving.
“We tried to find alternative routes, for example from Kisekende to Kirungi road, we found it narrow and we tried for it in Kigagga that passes by Electoral commission but we failed because people there also built-in road reserve,” Moyer Ssekiziivu stated.
Ssekiziivu told Mubende Post that they have not given up and have tried to talk to the neighbours who built in the road reserve to understand each other and have held meetings but the facts show they agree.
he added that the problem is not theirs as current municipality leaders but they inherited from the existing leadership before Mubende became a municipality as it was still a town council who do not care to properly guide the construction of buildings in the developing town council.
“Now as you can see the apartment of the late Kisembo when we were mapping out it was discovered that it is in road reserve and the building next to it when we told them to have somewhere to demolish they promised to take us to court or else we compensate them and in big sums but USMID doesn’t compensate,” Ssekiziivu revealed.
The mayor says that the Highway-Kirungi-Kangulumira to Gayaza road is expected to be developed in 2025 with additional funding from the World Bank.
Highway Kirungi-Kangulumira to Gayaza Road is one of the most used roads in the municipality.
