MUBENDE: Kato Investments Limited emerged as the football champions in the 2024 Mubende Corporate Clubs Independence Sports Gala.
The event that aimed at celebrating Uganda’s 62nd Independence in style attracted 16 corporate teams; Centenary Bank, Mubende Corporate Club, Equity Bank, BBF Financial Services, Eriannah Hardware, Prime Rose Hotel, Nabaligi Coca-Cola, Baylor Foundation Uganda, Serveytech, Bagezza Saco, Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), RS Fuel Station, Wills Oil, RB Shoppers, Hot Spice Restaurant, and Kato Investments Ltd which competed in games like; football, volleyball and bottle filling.
Kato Investments, dealers in Breweries brands, were crowned champions after destroying Mubende Cooperate Club (MCC) in a 3-0 win in the football final of the maiden Mubende Independence Sports Gala, which took place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at National Teachers College (NTC) Playground in Mubende town.

MCC who looked vulnerable in group stages managed to go second in Group C on 4 points, 3 less than RS Fueling Station who booked the top spot.
The team of veterans beat RB Shoppers and Erianah Hardware in the Quarter-final and semi-final respectively to find their way to the final only to be poured with ‘beers’ by Kato Investments who had made a statement that they had come for the title after trashing the talented RS Fuel Station boys in the quarter-finals and Prime Rose Hotel in the semi-finals.

In volleyball, RB Shoppers were crowned champions while Uganda Nationa Roads Authority (UNRA) walked home with an application trophy for participating in all games.
Mr. Ronald Sseruwagi, Corporate Club Board Chairperson spoke about the league’s commitment to promoting physical wellness, and team bonding.
“This is the first time we experienced this Independence Sports Gala in Mubende and we want it to happen every year on Independence Day.
“We’ve curated an experience that delivers on all the pertinent fronts of team building. This is on top of the fact that we are encouraging companies to show up flamboyantly and project their brands in a light that benefits them and the Sports Gala.
“This maiden event was not easy for us to have it commenced and there are several companies we failed to reach out to but next time we will try our best to have them on board,” Mr Sseruwagi remarked.
Speakers celebrated the marriage between companies and praised the Corporate League’s notion of fitness and health.
At the event, Baylor Foundation Uganda offered free HIV testing and counseling to people who came through for the occasion.
