Millions Lost in Mityana School Fire

MITYANA: Properties worth millions have been destroyed after Wilton Nursery and Primary School in Kyofatogabye cell East Ward Bisimbi Division Mityana Municipality in Mityana District caught fire.

According to the Police spokesperson for the Wamala region, Kawala Racheal, preliminary findings indicate that on October 10, 2024, at around 0558 hrs, male juvenile aged 10, a pupil of primary three in Wilton school, returned to the dormitory to pick up his pen while other pupils were out for morning lessons. While checking for his pen, he landed on a matchbox.

According to the victim he then tried testing the matchbox and lit one match stick and threw it on a mattress at the extreme corner of the dormitory which iginited fire and spread within the whole domitory and immediately, the teachers and neighbors saw too much smoke coming out from the domitory and responded to the scene and tried to put it off.

Police were informed about the incident and the fire brigade and rescue team immediately responded to the scene of crime and put off the fire.

Mubende Post understands that no death or injury was registered because all pupils had gone for morning lessons.

CCtv camera viewed by our task team clearly indicates all the boy’s activities while he was alone inside the dormitory. However, Primary Seven candidates are devastated after losing most of their books in the incident.
