Owek. Luweekula, Andrew Mukasa Ssempijja officially launched Luweekula Cup 2025 on Sunday at Kiyuni SS Playground in a opening match that left Kasambya crying foul.
Defending champions Musaale Kiyuni began their Luweekula Cup campaign with a controversial win over Ssaabagabo Kasambya at home on calm Sunday evening. Kiyuni defeated Kasambya 1-0 in the tournament opener thanks to Lukyamuzi Paul’s first half goal.

Kiyuni created several chances but had to wait for referees’ long-blinking to find the back of the net from a controversial incident.
The game was halted for 5 minutes with Kasambya complaining about the controversial goal that was awarded. It all started when Kiyuni was awarded a free kick just after the centre line on the left flank, taken by Goal Keeper Mubiru Patrick in aerial ‘hit the electricity Wires’ that crosses above the 6 yard box of the opponents side and then deflected back in play contributing to Kasambya’s suffering.

Players including Calvin Ogubezo, Moise Moses, Alex Muka among others were seen attacking the center referee questioning his decision to continue the play after the ball that was going over the cross bar deflected back in play and later the goal counted. Unfortunately their explanation yielded nothings as the referees insisted and awarded Kiyuni a lead and a win in the end.
“We talked to the referees, explained the incident to them but the failed to listen to us. He told us that he got nothing to do for us since we accepted to play in the playground with wires crossing through the field of play,” Kasambya players told Mubende Post in an interview at full time.

Kasambya who reported with only 11 players with no substitutes went on to create more chances in the second half to find level but failed to capitalise on several of them.
Kiyuni created more and more chances with every passing minute to double their lead, but Kasambya kept their composure and prevented them from extending their lead thanks to young star Januar Risasi’s master class goal keeping.
Kiyuni will return in action playing away against Butoloogo on March 2nd, 2025 at Butoloogo Seed SS playground.
Well as Kasambya’s next fixture with Butoloogo has been rescheduled from Sunday, February 23rd to Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 at Lwamaizi Playground to give room for Sunday’s ‘Buweekula vs Buddu Save Nabutono Charity Game’ at Kasenyi Playground in Mubende town.
