President Museveni Blamed Over Theft of 80 Cattle in Kasambya

The family of Lubwama Merigeriddo, 84, in Kisuumu central village in Kasambya town council, Mubende district are crying foul cursing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for prompting the stealing of over 80 cattle.

Lubwama revealed in an exclusive interview with Mubende Post that their cattle were forcibly taken from them when President Museveni attacked Kabamba barracks in 1981.

Lubwama says when President Museveni attacked Kabamba barracks he was a 27-year-old young man and he understood all that happened.

He explained to Mubende post that 80 of their cattle were taken away by the alleged Obote men because of the anger that was inflicted on them when Museveni attacked the barracks.

“When Museveni and his men attacked the barracks, the situation was tense in this whole village, and we also fled and hid in Kasambya town. After a while, we returned to find the 80 cattle that we had left on the farm. Unfortunately, upon our return, we found nothing,” Lubwama narrated.

After taking the cows, the old man says they tried to chase them but couldn’t rescue them.

“After finding that our cows were missing we asked the people we met around if they had seen our cows but they told us that Kisokoso led bandits from Obote’s government who hid in rescuing and looking for terrorists that passed by the whole village taking people animals are the ones that took them away,” Lubwama said.

Lubwama revealed that they tried to follow up the foot stamps until they reached Mityana where they were accused of feeding the bandits. Animals were taken by the government and were advised to go home as the investigations took place.

Upon their return, Lubwama says they didn’t rest as they continued looking for help from different offices but all went in vain, his parents died, his uncles died, and his old brothers and now he’s the one looking for help.

“We have reached out to almost everyone we expect to help about the matters we have got nothing,” Lubwama said.

Mr. Lubwama Merigeriddo

Mr Lubwama and his Family are still wondering what geared the government to take their cattle when they had nothing to do with the government be it the rebels.

“We were farmers who had nothing to do with the government and we used to make wines here, we farmed as well as raised cows and that is where we used to get our livelihood but we wonder why they took all our cattle when even the rebels we didn’t know them,” Merigeriddo said.

“We were also scared because we saw Museveni’s vehicles and the army passing by going to Kiboga,” he added.

However, Merigeriddo’s family was not the only family that suffered, most of the people who had livestock in the area faced the same and their animals were taken thinking that villagers were feeding Museveni and his men in the bush.

As the country celebrates the 39th liberation day, Lubwama and his family appeal to President Museveni to do something for them when he returns Mubende next month.
