With few months to the 2026 elections, the National Unity platform in Mubende is in shock after some of the party’s powerful members’ names appeared on the Democratic Alliance-DA’s list of Coordinators, a political pressure group led by Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba to spread its vision of change and good governance across the country.

Among them was Muganga Augustine a vocal influencer and a political aid to one of the candidates of NUP on Mubende municipality seat.

He was tasked with the job of drumming up support for the DA party in Mubende District where Bobi Wine has anticipate much support because of the number of candidates on the NUP ticket he has right now.

However, Muganga rejects the alleged appointment as a coordinator of the Democratic Alliance (DA) threatening legal action against DA Patron Mathias Mpuuga for including his name without consent.

“Maybe these people were dreaming because they have never contacted me about anything related to the Democratic Alliance. I only saw my name on the list,” he said.

Muganga says that Mpuuga might have taken his name from a popular Mubende WhatsApp group, where he is very active.

Despite being a councilor on the NUP ticket For the East division of Mubende Municipality Samuel Mayanja was also been added to the DA team and he was been told to go on the ground again as early as possible and sell the DA party ideas in Mubende district, and Lukyamuzi Sam.

However, Mayanja also denies any affiliation with the DA, insisting they were never consulted.

“This is something weird because I have never been contacted by anyone from the Democratic Alliance. I was shocked to see my name on the list,” Mayanja said.

He accused Mpuuga of tarnishing his name and vowed to take legal action if the matter was not addressed.“I want Mpuuga to clarify why he did this because I am a leader in NUP, and many people know me. If he fails to do so, I will take legal action against him,” he added.

The controversy has caused an uproar among NUP supporters in Mubende, with some expressing suspicion over the appointments.

“We are worried and shocked about this matter. We have always suspected some of those appointed, but now time has revealed the truth,” said NUP members Ismael Ssegawa and Bob Richard Kyamanywa.

Some of Hon Sumayiya’s diehards say their colleagues to appear on the DA coordinator’s list was a political planned move to blackmail the team and their candidate.

According to Kakooza Denis, Hon Nabawanuka Sumayiya was the target, so they wanted to get someone who was close to her.

“Some people knew about it because they were the planners. You will listen to some people with low IQ saying Muganga is a DA coordinator, they planned, submitted his name, they read his name, now they’re spreading the lies and propaganda,” Denis said.

Kakooza asserts that Mpuuga and his DA coordinators are fake and that what was done didn’t follow the right procedures as it is said in the circulating video. “‘Mpuuga is a Muffere, and all his acts are for baffere”. He said. the word muffere means he’s fake and baffere means they are fake.

However, others question if this was a planned move how could Mpuuga and his team fail to scrutinize their list before giving it to the public and end up giving false names and persons as their coordinators. They insist that these people strategically subscribe to Mpuuga’s DA since there’s no smoke without Fire.

Whereas while on the Phone speaking to Mubende Post DA leader Walter Lubega Mukaaku suggested that the appointments may have been in error but those appointed are free to exit.

“Do you mean all our Appointed coordinators refused? If Muganga and Mayanja refuse they are free to do, you see politicians are bought with money and change, now if they reject it’s okay because they were not appointed at gunpoint.” Mukaaku told Mubende Post.

Seeking to strengthen their efforts to rekindle the country’s democratic fabric, Mathias Mpuuga, the coordinator of the Democratic Alliance (DA), launched the civic platform’s coordinators at the DA head office in Namirembe on March 14, 2025.

The launch was attended by DA chief promoters including Samuel Lubega Mukaaku, Micheal Mabikke, Henry Lubowa, and MPs including Kimaanya-Kabonera’s Abed Bwanika, Juliet Kakande (Masaka City Woman), Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa (Ntebbe Municipality), and Moses Kasibante, the former Lubaga North MP, etc who reiterated their commitment to the cause.

Mpuuga urged them to rally the nation, demanding minimum reforms. He asserted, “We must work to undo this kind of misrepresentation. General Museveni should be the last dictator to preside over this nation and to abuse our generosity as a people, and to abuse our sacrifice as a nation.
