MUBENDE: Ismael Ssegawa, aspiring Member of Parliament for Mubende Municipality, was warmly received by the people of Katabalanga, who showed him overwhelming love and support. Ssegawa attended the burial of his voter, Kurabiraawo Gita, in Namabale village, where a convoy of boda boda riders escorted him, leaving the whole village on a standstill.

During the ceremony, Evangelist Masiko advised youths to avoid using drugs, citing it as one of the reasons for Gita’s death.

In his speech, Ssegawa thanked the late Gita for being a people’s person, which is evident from the large turnout at his burial. He praised Gita’s ability to create friendships with everyone, regardless of his job as a boda boda rider.

Ssegawa also took the opportunity to address the issue of drug use among youths, urging them to abandon the habit. He cited the example of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who overcame drug addiction to become a leader.

“Our president in the National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, was a victim of drugs, but he knew the effects and surrendered them. See now, this generation looks up to him as the next president of Uganda. This is a clear example that you can change and become a better person, regardless of your past,” Ssegawa said.

Ssegawa emphasized that youths should learn from Bobi Wine’s experience and strive to become better versions of themselves. He encouraged them to abandon drug use and focus on building a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

The late Gitta left behind over seven young orphans, and Ssegawa called upon the community to support them. He pledged to pay half of the school fees for the eldest girl child until she completes her studies. Additionally, he donated five dozen books to support the education of all the orphans.

Ssegawa also led the mourners in contributing money to support the orphans, raising 200,000 shillings.

Other aspiring politicians, including Afande Ramadhan (NRM), Joan (NRM), and Nabawanuka Sumaya (NUP), attended the burial ceremony. Ssegawa, who is running on the National Unity Platform ticket, took a jab at the incumbent MP, saying a good leader should be accessible to their people and provide support when needed.

Ssegawa’s campaign strategy seems to be paying off, as he has been actively engaging with the community and building a strong grassroots support base. This approach aligns with the National Unity Platform’s philosophy, as emphasized by the party’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya. Rubongoya has repeatedly stated that the party’s strength lies not in its headquarters, but in its ability to connect with the people on the ground.

“The card is not at the party headquarters; the card is on the ground, with the people,” Rubongoya has said.

Ssegawa’s actions in Mubende Municipality demonstrate his commitment to this philosophy. By attending community events, listening to people’s concerns, and providing support where needed, Ssegawa is building a strong foundation for his campaign.

As Ssegawa concluded his speech, the community thanked him for his support and encouragement. In a show of appreciation, a convoy of boda boda riders escorted him back through the town of Kattabalanga, waving to the people and chanting his name.

The convoy, which consisted of over 50 boda boda riders, wound its way through the town’s streets, with Ssegawa standing tall, waving to the crowds and shaking hands with supporters. The scene was a testament to Ssegawa’s growing popularity in the region, as people from all walks of life came out to catch a glimpse of the aspiring MP.

As the convoy made its way through the town, Ssegawa took the opportunity to interact with the people, listening to their concerns and promising to address them if elected. The people, in turn, expressed their gratitude for his support and encouragement, pledging to vote for him in the upcoming elections.

As he continues to engage with the people and build a strong grassroots support base, it is clear that he is a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming elections.
