NRM Parliamentary Caucus Rally to Take Place in Mubende Despite Internal Disagreements

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary caucus is set to hold a rally on April 13th at Kasaana playgrounds in Mubende, despite internal disagreements among party members.
The rally aims to boost support for President Yoweri Museveni, whose popularity in the Buganda region has been declining.
Mubende District is currently represented by five NRM MPs: Hon. Lubega Bashir Ssempa (Mubende Municipality), Hon. Hope Grania Nakazibwe (Mubende District Woman MP), Hon. Museveni William Ndoori (Buwekula South), Hon. Mbabazi Pascal (Buwekula County), and Hon. Kabanda David (Kasambya County). The district’s leadership also includes LC5 Chairperson Muhereza Michael Ntambi, also a NRM member.
However, not all NRM members are on board for the rally. Hon. Hope Grania Nakazibwe has distanced herself from the event, stating she’s unaware of the preparations and won’t attend. Other leaders have also expressed skepticism about the rally’s success.
Despite these challenges, Hon. Lubega Bashir Ssempa, the rally’s host, remains committed to its success. He showed a letter to the press, which he claims was received by each member of parliament and the LC5 chairperson, confirming they are all aware of the rally. Bashir assured that ministers and MPs will be available to listen to the people’s concerns.
The NRM parliamentary caucus has already held successful rallies in Kiboga and Mawokota districts, with MPs from those areas working together. However, Mubende’s MPs have struggled to collaborate, raising concerns about the rally’s impact on the party’s popularity.
With the 2026 elections approaching, the outcome of this rally will be closely watched.
Can the NRM regain the trust of Buganda region voters? Only time will tell.
