President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned the newly constructed Mubende Central Market and tarmac roads in the heart of Mubende Municipality.

The market and the roads were constructed under the Uganda Support to Municipality Infrastructure Development Program (USMID).

The 61.6 billion worth USMID projects are intended to improve business operations in Mubende district and beyond, aligned with the government’s cause to improve and reduce the cost of doing business.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized that public markets are meant for low-income earners and has ordered the wealthy to vacate them and create space for the intended beneficiaries.

The president has also warned Mubende Central Market and municipal leaders against exorbitant dues charged on vendors.

President Museveni has tasked residents of Mubende Municipality to ensure effective management of the new infrastructure put up by the government, including roads and markets that are meant to elevate the area’s status and appearance.

The president has also banned exorbitant dues charged in public markets, stating that public markets are meant for low-income earners from where they should grow their capital.

He has questioned the inaction of elected leaders on such matters and promised to cause the arrest of technical staff like town clerks and others involved in such vices.
