MUBENDE IN CRISIS: When Leadership Fails the People

Published

on

Mubende Municipality and the wider district recently had the honour of hosting the President—a moment that should have been used to present a united front, amplify the voices of the people, and demand attention to long-standing issues.

But instead of unity, we witnessed division. Personal rivalries among our leaders have taken center stage, and as a result, the people have been left without direction or representation. Leaders who once stood together under the BAMUDA umbrella—Hon. Kabanda, Hon. Bashir Ssempa, Hon. Hope Grania, and Hon. Ntambi Michael—no longer speak in one voice. Egos have replaced cooperation, and pride has silenced progress.

In this atmosphere of disunity, how can critical issues be addressed?

Land grabbing continues unchecked, leaving families homeless and vulnerable.
Public service delivery remains poor—health centers lack medicine, schools are under-equipped, and roads are impassable.

Corruption thrives while no one is held accountable.
Presidential pledges made to the people of Mubende remain unfulfilled, with no one to follow up or speak out.

Meanwhile, innocent citizens languish in prisons over unresolved land matters, forgotten by a system that is supposed to protect them.

The people of Mubende are crying out—but their voices are drowned in the noise of political infighting. At a time when unity is needed most, our leaders are pulling in different directions.

What message does this send to the President and the rest of the country? That Mubende is unprepared? That its people are divided? No, the people are not the problem. The failure lies in the leadership.

It’s time for our leaders to put aside their differences. The pride, the rivalries, the self-interest—it must end. Mubende needs a common voice, a united stand, and leadership that prioritizes service over status.

Because without unity, we lose our strength. And without strong, selfless leadership, the cries of the people will continue to fall on deaf ears.
