President Museveni Injects 100M Into Wamala Region Journalists’ Sacco

President Museveni has pledged Shs 100 million to support the Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) for journalists in Wamala Region.
The announcement was made during a media engagement with Greater Mubende-based journalists at the Mubende State Lodge in BOOMA, where the President spent the night and later proceeded to Kiboga to conclude a three-day visit as part of his nationwide tour.
The request for the funding and a media van was made through Moses Semuyaba, and received overwhelming backing from the Wamala journalist fraternity.
The President lauded their initiative and commitment to advancing journalism in the region, emphasising the role of the media in fostering development and accountability.
“I commend you for organising yourselves into a SACCO. This shows that you are forward-thinking and focused on improving your economic well-being. I will ensure that the Shs 100 million is made available to your SACCO to support your activities and growth,” President Museveni announced to cheers from the journalists.
The President also committed to providing a fully equipped media van to ease coverage of events in the expansive five districts, including Mubende, Kassanda, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, and Mityana, which often face logistical challenges due to their width.
“This van will support your work, enabling you to cover stories from even the most remote areas. The government values your role in informing and educating the public, and we shall ensure you have the tools to do so,” Museveni added.
The announcement has sparked excitement among journalists in Greater Mubende, many of whom have struggled with limited resources in their efforts to report on the unique challenges and opportunities in the region.
Journalists from greater Mubende expressed their gratitude for the donation and promised to use the funds to start self-help projects aimed at improving their livelihoods.
Following the engagement, the President Commissioned the newly constructed Mubende Central Market and tarmac roads in the heart of Mubende Municipality constructed under The Uganda Support To Municipality Infrastructure Development Program (USMID) worth 61.3 Billion worth USMID projects are intended to improve bussiness operations in Mubende district and beyond aligned to government’s cause to improve and reduce the cost of doing business
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasized that public markets are meant for low income earners and has ordered the wealthy to vacate them and create space for the intended beneficiaries
The president also warned Mubende Central Market and municipal leaders against exorbitant dues charged on venders.
