MUBENDE: Our Lady of Fatima Mubende Catholic Parish has formed an education committee to assist the Mubende District local government in monitoring the education systems in the district.

The committee will work closely with the district education department to ensure that they improve education including ensuring that every school has enough teachers who are on duty at all times

The church has also identified nine schools that are in urgent need of the construction of toilets, clean water, water tanks, and kitchens.

This committee will ensure that children get meals at schools with the lunch program already started in Catholic-based schools.

According to Rev Father Emmanuel Mwerekande, the head of the parish, one of the reasons why children are not doing well in school is because the go to classes on an empty stomach.

This is among the plans that our Lady of Fatima Mubende Catholic Parish has initiated as the church celebrates 100 years on September 20, 2025, to give back to the community.

Education in schools, especially those run by catholic churches, has been still functioning well despite limited government assistance and the church added that the Committee will remain after the anniversary celebrations.

The District currently has over 425 schools with 100 Nursery Schools, 291 Primary Schools, 30 Secondary Schools, 1 Btvet Schools and 3 Tertiary Schools.
