Buwekula Must Shine: Dedan Foundation spearheads fundraising of over 100Millions for a community school construction.

Buweekula Constituency which comprises 3 subcounties and one town council in Mubende District has only one secondary school hence increasing on the number of school dropouts since children opt to collect empty bottles and scrap.

Kayebe Church Of Uganda which is found in Kayebe subcounty on realising this challenge decided to establish a secondary school known as St Mark SS Kayebe with a motive of reducing distance travelled by students while going to secondary schools.

Rev.Danstani Tibandeeba the head of Kayebe Church Of Uganda says that they founded this school in 2020 with 35 students but unfortunately the pandemic of COVID 19 broke up hence leading to closure of schools.

Reverand adds that since the school was Church founded,students in lower classes attended lessons in the former church building whereas those in Upper classes used the new church building.

This condition has therefore forced the dwellers of Buweekula South under the influence of Dedan Foundation to organise a fundraising event that involved their comrades including leaders from various areas,traders and many others who contributed 100 million Ugandan shillings to aid the establishment of class blocks in addition to the parents’ contribution that was made in May 2024.

The fundraising event that was made in the school premises started with prayers led by religious leaders and then the actual event where Mubende residents showed alot of support commenced.

Other attendees that included different members of Parliament brought tangible goods that included cattle,goats,bunches of matooke,beans,chicken and so many other things that generated money.

The headteacher of this school,Mrs Nansadu Suzan Ashaba at this fundraising event disclosed the challenges faced which included lack of salaries for the 21 teachers employed here yet 18 of them hold degrees this has caused grief to the citizens of Mubende hence being forced to solicit more funds.

Susan has requested those with authority to engage government if possible to take over this school since whatever it takes was done and their documents are already in the ministry of education and sports.

The woman member of Parliament for Mubende District Hon Hope Grania Nakazibwe has promised to fight tooth and nail to see that the request made by teachers and parents of the government taking over this school.

Dedan Mubangizi the founder of Dedan Foundation who spearheaded this fundraising campaign says that they can’t wait for the government to do everything yet they have the capacity as the community to uplift their area.

Dedan adds that this school is to become an example to other areas that have no schools since parents can do the needful as they wait for the government to give a hand.

Dedan has requested parents to bring students to this school in order for the government to give a hand further more he has requested parents to educate their children since its the only form of wealth offered for a lifetime.

This school has a total population of 264 students in a period of only 3 years.Susan the headteacher says she expects a total population of 500 students come next year.
