The Wamala Flying Squad Unit and the territorial police in Mityana have made significant progress in investigating a series of aggravated robberies, resulting in the arrest of 10 suspects.
These crimes occurred between November 2024 and January 2025 in the districts of Mityana, Kassanda, and some parts of Kampala.
The arrested suspects are:
Sseguya Ivan alias Bashir, male, aged 19 years, Agaba Godfrey alias Boge, male, aged 19 years, Kabugo Shafik alias Fik, male, aged 19 years, Kiiza Simon alias Andrew, male, aged 23 years, Ndyanabo Mathias, male, aged 28 years, Turyahebwa Nicholas, male, aged 19 years, Nsabimana Peter alias Kajambiya, male, aged 22 years, Nakitulimana Sam, male, aged 20 years, Mubibi, male, aged 22 years, Kayemba Umaru, male, aged 25 years.
Arrest and Investigation Progress
On December 27, 2024, officers at Sekanyonyi Police Station arrested Sseguya Ivan in connection with an aggravated robbery incident at SACCO offices in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi. During interrogation, he revealed the identities of his accomplices, leading to their arrests in Mityana Municipality, Nansana Municipality, and Kassanda District.
The suspects have confessed to involvement in a series of robberies in Mityana, Kassanda, and parts of Kampala during the period mentioned. Below are details of the incidents:
Robbery Incidents in Mityana District
December 27, 2024: Ssebagereka Vincent was attacked at Kikuuta Village, and his 15-year-old daughter was defiled.
December 27, 2024: Namilimu Noelina of Lukingiride Village, Kalangalo Sub-County, was robbed of UGX 500,000.
December 27, 2024: Kasozi Samuel of Nakilagala Village, Kalangalo Sub-County, was robbed of UGX 70,000.
December 27, 2024: SACCO offices in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi Town Council, were broken into.
January 3, 2025: Ssali Matayo and his wife, Tumwedaze Faith, were attacked at Kalangalo Village. Mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money were stolen, and the maid was raped. Tragically, Tumwedaze Faith passed away on January 4, 2025.
January 3, 2025: Kizito of Kalangalo Village was robbed of mobile phones.
January 3, 2025: Munyakindi Dan of Kalangalo LC1 Village was robbed of SACCO money amounting to UGX 4,500,000.
The suspects also confessed to housebreakings, burglaries, and theft in areas such as Namukozi and Wabigalo in Mityana District.
Robbery Incidents in Kassanda District
December 20, 2024: Tumwebaze Stella of Bukuya Trading Center was robbed of UGX 3,000,000, laptops, and mobile phones.
December 30, 2024: Sserunjogi Yusufu Salongo was robbed of mobile phones, a national ID, and an unspecified amount of money.
November 3, 2024: Lugeye Matayo was robbed of his mobile phone.
November 18, 2024: Kahutu Yakobo was robbed of UGX 10,000,000 and mobile phones.
December 25, 2024: Mfitumukiza Erick was robbed of UGX 6,500,000 and mobile phones.
December 17, 2024: Muwonge Julius was robbed of a motorcycle (Reg. No. UEL 515A Bajaj Boxer), televisions, mobile phones, UGX 1,000,000, and two suitcases.
Evidence and Ongoing Investigations
Searches conducted at the suspects’ premises have led to the recovery of several exhibits, including mobile phones identified by the victims.
The suspects were also found in possession of breaking tools.
According to SP Kawala Racheal PRO Wamala region “we commend our task teams and thank community members who provided critical information that helped dismantle this criminal gang.”
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects involved.
