Police in Mubende have arrested three people for allegedly stabbing and setting ablaze the driver and his vehicle to ashes in Kayaana village , Madudu sub-county in Mubende district.
The deceased has been identified as Midu, the driver of a car registration number UBB 330Q.
Midu and three others had gone to the village to pick up banana leaves but arrived in the wee hours of last night. On the team of four, three decided to sleep in a lodge found in the area leaving Midu behind in the car to protect the battery from being taken by thieves.
However, what he didnt know is that it was his unfortunate night as he was stabbed and then set on fire by a mob claiming he was a chief.
The disturbing video recorded by a phone at night that Mubende Post has sighted shows a man who was later identified as Midu screaming for help after a car caught fire but all in vain. His body was in the morning found lying next to the car which was burnt to ashes.
Eddie Nsimbi, who camped with the deceased at night, said “The men had come to buy banana leaves and when they arrived in the disputed town they found a lodge to stay”.
Nsimbi added that; “their driver, known as Midu, stayed in his car to protect the batteries from being stolen when the perpetrators found him”.
The deceased had been in the driver’s profession for most of the banana leaves dealers for eight years and this was not the first time he had come to the area.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for further examination, while three people were arrested to assist police in the investigation.
