PRIDE OF MUBENDE! Universal College Posts Stellar Performance With 90 Students in Result 1

MUBENDE: Universal College Mubende set a remarkable record in the first-ever Uganda Certificate of Education Examination under the new curriculum arrangement. This outstanding achievement cements the Universal College Mubende’s status as a top-performing Secondary School in the region.

All the 90 students who sat for the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams passed with Result 1, marking an impressive 100% success rate.

Speaking to Mubende Post, the school’s Headteacher, Joseph Baryomumaisho, commended the teachers for their dedication, the students for their commitment, and the parents for their continuous support in ensuring the attainment of this stellar performance.

“This milestone is the result of teamwork and determination. Our teachers adapted well to the new curriculum, the students remained focused and parents gave invaluable support throughout the journey,” HM Joseph Baryomumaisho remarked.

Despite being a new curriculum, the school maintained a flawless success rate for all who participated.

Baryomumaisho affirmed the school’s commitment to sustaining and surpassing this level of excellence as it continues to navigate the new curriculum framework.

“Looking ahead, the school administration remains committed to maintaining and even surpassing this level of academic success. Plans are in place to enhance learning programs and provide students with more opportunities to excel beyond UCE,” Baryomumaisho added.

Universal College Mubende’s achievement is a beacon of hope and inspiration for other institutions adapting to Uganda’s evolving education landscape.

The school’s performance underscores a balance between sciences and humanities projects, with a particular emphasis on Agriculture, a subject crucial to Uganda’s economy.

Speaking to Mubende Post, Charles Masengere, one of the school directors expressed pride in the students’ performance.

“This is our first group of candidates, and we are proud to say that all of them passed with Result 1. This means that they are eligible for further studies in professional courses. Our success is a result of teamwork, commitment, and the dedication of our teaching staff,” Charles stated.

On the impact of UNEB’s New Grading System, Charles noted that it did not affect the students since they were the first cohort under the new curriculum.

“Our focus has been on ensuring that students grasp both theoretical and practical knowledge, which aligns well with the new system,” Charles remarked.

Masengere highlighted that they are the best performers in the new curriculum in the Mubende region.

“Most of our students scored As, Bs, and Cs, with only a few Ds. This proves that our teaching methods and practical learning approach are yielding results.

“What we are focusing on now is to teach our students how to select which combination can fit their best-performed subject at A-level which other schools can not do. So they should come to us,” Masengere explained.

With such an impressive start, Universal College Mubende is positioning itself as a top-performing institution in the region.

“We will focus more on strengthening practical lessons, particularly in sciences, to ensure that our students gain skills applicable in real-world careers. Additionally, we plan to invest in teacher training workshops to align with the evolving curriculum demands,” Masengere added.

“Universal College Mubende has implemented a robust academic system that includes continuous assessments, remedial lessons, and mentorship programs to ensure students are well-prepared for their exams. This approach has been instrumental in achieving the school’s impressive results,” Lawrence stated.

Lawrence added that this remarkable accomplishment highlights the significance of commitment, strategic planning, and a supportive learning environment in fostering academic excellence.

As UNEB continues to release results nationwide, Universal College Mubende is set to jubilate its achievement on Friday, February 14, 2025, as a testament to dedication, resilience, and quality education. With a solid foundation already in place, the school is poised for even greater success in the coming years.
