Mubende municipality MP candidate Ismael Segawa known as Sureman has defended the allegedly unsatisfactory working conditions of Mubende Regional Referral Hospital saying that the regional referral hospital is responsible for seven districts including, Kasanda, Mityana, Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, and Mubende which is inevitable to be overcrowded.
Mubende Regional Referral Hospital faces several challenges that impact its ability to provide quality healthcare services. The major problem is Drug stockouts, with the hospital frequently running out of essential medicines. This forces patients to purchase drugs from private clinics, which can be expensive and unaffordable for many.
Furthermore, Inadequate Infrastructure is also a concern, with some equipment in need of repair or upgrade. This also hinders the hospital’s ability to provide specialized care and treat complex cases.
Concerns Over CT Scan absence and Fees recently raised concerns, with patients being charged Shs150,000 for the use of the CT Scan machine in Private clinics near the referral, Whereas the hospital management recently restored the government-provided CT scan which is hoped to be Free.
Residents of Mubende district have always thanked the Government for building hospitals but often cry for average services asking to provide these hospitals with equipment like drugs.
Some of the residents expressed their regret that the most frustrating thing is to queue at hospitals but they get off without proper treatments.
However, MP Aspiant Segawa defended the hospital’s average performance explaining that although Mubende Referral Hospital is often blamed for a lack of satisfactory service, the equipment provided by the government is not enough to serve all the patients.
He further stressed that to improve the health of the people in Mubende, a District hospital should be established to reduce the overcrowding at referral.
“If I am allowed to be the Member of Parliament for Mubende Municipality, I will work my head off to make sure we get a district hospital in my municipality,” Segawa said.
Recently The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwine visited Mubende Regional Referral Hospital and warned doctors that they will be punished when neglecting their duties, invest energy in their clinics, and leave patients with no help.
She also rebuked the management for not monitoring the work of the equipment sent to them and getting it over without their knowledge then the doctors got the opportunity and started charging patients money to buy the equipment which has caused people to insult the govt that it has failed.
Mubende Regional Referral Hospital Head Dr Batibwe Emmanuel said the hospital has increased the number of doctors and beds from 26 to 347 beds.
The Ministry of Health recently launched a surveillance system sent by the Regional public health emergency operations center at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital to monitor districts including Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Mubende, Kasanda, Mityana, Luweero, Nakaseke, as well as Nakasongola.
