President Museveni Monition Cultural institutions From Politics Cites The Lack of people’s Mandate

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while on the 31st anniversary of His Royal Highness Gafabusa Solomon Iguru 1, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, at Karuziika Palace in Hoima City, reminded the Kingdoms of their 4 core roles that informed their restoration
President Yoweri Museveni notes that his support for the restoration of kingdoms in Uganda meant their auxiliary support to the government in the four aspects of preservation of rational indigenous traditional norms and customs, local languages, mobilisation of the people for socioeconomic action, and preservation of indigenous foods.
President Museveni says the Bunyoro kingdom has played its role in supporting the government’s socioeconomic interventions and credited the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom HRH Gafabusa Solomon Iguru 1, for well stewarding the people of Bunyoro
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also committed to continuously supporting the treatment and care of His Royal Highness Gafabusa Solomon Iguru 1, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, who is currently undergoing treatment
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasizes that kingdoms should keep away from politics because they lack the people’s mandate to do so
He says political mandate is derived from elections where the people vote for their leaders who are then entrusted with legislation, Administration, and planning for the nation, which is not the case for cultural institutions
President Museveni recalled the historical mistakes made by kingdoms when they entangled themselves in wars that finally aided colonialism in Uganda, with the assistance of kings at the time, citing historical wars between Bunyoro and Buganda that he says were avoidable
President Museveni explained the distinction between the role of kingdoms and government and the limitations of each
The president gifted 50 million shillings to the kingdom as it marks the 31st Empango/coronation anniversary of His Royal Highness Gafabusa Solomon Iguru 1, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom
Bunyoro kingdom hailed President Yoweri Museveni for leading the restoration of cultural institutions in the country, which has brought about unity and cohesion and socioeconomic development among the people
The Omuhikirwa / Prime Minister of Bunyoro kingdom, Andrew Byakutaaga reveals that the kingdom is witnessing historic gains since its restoration, ranging from streamlining of its administration, establishment of economic ventures and kingdom projects, enhanced tourism infrastructure, establishment of Bunyoro University supported by government, and several other socioeconomic programs among other key interventions.
